Question1) What can you do to the ring if the ball does not pass through the ring?
What will happen to the size of the inner diameter of the ring and the thickness of the ring when it is heated or cooled?

Group answer)  Heat the ring from inside out.Interior diameter will expand more than exterior diameter as heat travels from a hotter to a colder region.

My answer) You can heat the ring anywhere. The molecules will vibrate faster and the average distance between each molecule will increase.Following that the molecules will expand outward instead of inward as the space outside the ring is bigger than the space between the ring.

Question 2)Using a diagram ,explain why the bimetallic strip bends when it is heated and straightens when it is cooled.

Group answer) Metal B receives more thermal energy than Metal A. Thus B gains more heat. The molecules vibrate faster and the distance between the molecules increase. When it is cooled, both metals lose heat and return to their original form

My answer) Metal B receives more thermal energy than Metal A as the flame is directly below B. Thus B gains more heat. The molecules vibrate faster and the distance between the molecules increase. The length of Metal B will be longer than that of B.When it is cooled, both metals lose heat and the molecules lose their energy and slow down. Thus they contract and go back to their original form.
